Ann Belle Lonergan

Under Construction

She has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has enjoyed the trust of others, the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children; who has filled her niche and accomplished her task; who has left the world better than she found it, whether by an compassionate heart, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; who has never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express it; who has always looked for the best in others and given them the bests she had; whose life was an inspiration; whose memory is a benediction.

When we were in Bordeaux at Haut Brion we were entertained at lunch by the Duke de Mouchy, the owner. In one corner of the palatial reception room was a backgammon table which Ann was examining. The Duke asked condescendingly if Ann played. She said that she did.and would he care to play. The Duke said that he would although he didn't usually play backgammon with women .
Ann proceeded to resounndly beat him twice !  JRL

Always up for Anything ~ Cheerful in The Rain, Cruising in Pirate infested waters of the Caribbean, You name it ~

She was truly heaven sent.  I thank The good Lord everyday that He sent her to us!  Julie ~

Ann had a wonderful way about her, everyone's life she touched, she made better., with her unique wisdom and compassion. I think if you asked anyone she ever knew, they would agree and have a little story to tell you about it.  The storyteller would invariably tell their tale with a warm smile~and fond memories.~ Rip

We called this Ann's Blue Convertible!

Treasure hunting ~ Basilica Saint Michel Archange

Menton once was the property of the Italian Ventimiglia family but was acquired by the Grimaldi's of Monaco in 1346. For centuries it remained under the Grimaldi rule until 1848 when Menton declared itself a free city under the protection of the King of Sardegna. In 1860 Menton chose to become part of France.

After years of trying to find this special place, and a lot of being lost walking the streets of this 900 year old city, Eureka!

Walked up from the sea and overshot this day, ending up 1 hill over and above it ~ but, all in all...

The Saint-Michael Archange Basilica

With its incredible exterior, the bell-tower, the coloured cobbles of the parvis arranged to form the Grimaldi’s coat of arms and the “rampes Saint-Michel” (a series of flights of stairs) the “Basilique Saint-Michel” is a rare jewel of baroque art. More than 100000 tourists come to see the site every year.

The construction of the Basilica begun in 1640 under the reign of Honoré II, but took several centuries to be completed. The façade was then renovated in the 19th Century adding typical decor of the period such as smooth columns with ionic and corinthian capitals.

Saint-Michel Archange was proclaimed a Basilica in March 1999, by decree of Pope Jean-Paul II. This title, given for eternity, was in reward for the dynamism of the pastoral life and liturgy of the church.
